Broadcast Tech 1 will be a class that will never be forgotten. I have learned more valuable tools that I will actually use in real life, than any other elective i've ever taken. I liked how I can use what I learned in this class, whenever I record any video. I used to like to film Youtube videos, but haven't made one in years. This class makes me want to start again. I liked every project, and editing with Final Cut, and I now want to explore and master the application. I didn't like the frustrating parts, but I worked through them. My favorite project was the final, because we got to make pretty much a real life news story about anything. It felt like we had a lot more freedom. I am definitely interested in Broadcast II, because I want to explore the subject, and learn more. I would have liked to have a unit where you can go out and film whatever you'd like, or an "entertainment story" if you will. This was my favorite elective I have ever taken, and I will continue to use these skills throughout my life. The image is me grinning while recording a project, because I really enjoyed this class. Thank you for the great experience Mr. Goble and Mrs. Davidson.

The Humans of Ladue project was probably the most realistic project we did all year in my opinion. It reminds me of a real news story. Especially with the audio included with the b-roll. It was nice to go film a topic that many people don't discuss. I believe the class will really appreciate the story, and the b-roll. It slightly bends the rules of "Humans of Ladue", because we went outside of ladue, but it really is an interesting story, and most people do know what Shaw Park is. I learned that it is ok to think outside of the box, and create something you believe the audience will be entertained by. It was a really important project. Im glad we ended on one like this, because it is a very accomplishing project to end. I will always remember this as a valuable project.
The interview an expert unit was probably my favorite unit, because we got to have a partner, and go anywhere we wanted, to film what we thought was interesting. Russell Malone, and I chose Shaw Park ice rink, because it is a place we both like to go and hang out at during the winter. It is always filled with people that are no way alike, and very interesting. We came across this one person who would not stop talking to us, and using profane language about Clayton and Ladue these days. We had to tell him we were workers and that our shift is up to get him to leave us alone. I learned that it takes patience to get the right shot. We spent over an hour, in attempt to get the right b-roll footage. Overall, this was my favorite project, and I hope I will be able to record something like this again.
Today (11/13), I uploaded my Six word story, which was "life's much better when you pedal." I chose this because I grew up riding bikes, and I still ride my bike places to this day, (although that will change when I turn 16.) The story starts off with an XWS, showing the whole street, and establishing the setting. The second shot is a wide shot of me approaching the other subject in the street, which is supposed to be blocking the road. The third shot is another wide shot of me approaching the subject, and honking. Shot four is a close up of me honking at my brother, to show the details and frustration on my face. Shot five is a contract dolly to show me slamming on the breaks. Shot six is a follow shot which shows that it is much easier to pass a person on a bike. I chose all of these shots because it makes a clear picture of the story. I changed my storyboard a few times, because the old story had many angles that looked alike at the end, and I wanted to show the full picture as you can see below. The 6 word stories are very powerful. They can tell a detailed, yet simple story in only 6 words. I love how easy it is to teach a lesson in 6 words, and everyone can understand it. Earnest Hemingway was an amazing 6 word story writer. His most famous image was the blue shoe image. He created a mysterious, interrogating picture, with just some blue shoes. It makes you wonder what happened, whose shoes are those, and why they are for sale. Some examples of other short stories that stuck with me are right below.

Last week we finally got to use and get some practice in out brand new, excellent TV studio. I started off in the control room, specifically on the AJA computer. Believe it or not, it was not nearly as difficult as I expected. It may have been easy, because Mrs. Davidson is very good at explaining things, or because we had a very good director to start off with. The image to the right is me working on the AJA computer. The AJA consists of starting off the broadcast with the Ladue intro, the waving flag scene for the Pledge of Allegiance, and the outro. The only relatively challenging part was making sure you were on time, when it was time to play your part. Overall, it was quick, and easy to pick up. After the AJA, I went on to be the floor director. The floor director was a little bit more challenging, just because of the fact you had to be 100% precise, and you couldn't say a word, once the camera was rolling. You just communicated with your fingers. When I was the floor director, I was in charge of repeating the countdown from the director to me, and to the anchors. Really all you had to do was repeat what the director said, but once the camera was rolling, you just communicate countdowns with your fingers. It was very cool to get to work in the studio, and I am very excited to move on, and keep working with it. |
The iAm Connor video was a very important project. It previews the content to come on the SchoolTube page, and what I am all about. This video means a lot to me, because I love doing everything that is in this video, and it shows what I have dedicated my time to. It's purpose was to inform, and entertain the viewers. From this project, I learned that every little thing matters. Just one period, or one text bar that is out of order could confuse the viewer, Overall, this was a great project, and I look forward to the rest of them. Check out the video HERE.
